Whether or not you grow up to work in theatre, arts education has incredible value.
- Teaching experience is detailed on my CV page, including work with a range of ages (4-adult) in short- and long-term situations, in such areas as creative drama, musical theatre, and of course, scenography/design!
- Classes and workshops can include components of lecture, brainstorming, discussion, and hands-on activities as stand-alone events or steps in a process.
- I have developed curriculum and lesson plans on my own and as part of a team, and can adapt to fit into specific learning outcomes or to work with particular plays/material.
- Based on my background, lessons generally emphasize the collaborative nature of theatre and how every choice affects the story you tell and other decisions - applicable to many parts of life!
- My experience in education has also included writing study guides for the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre including contextualizing the play, summarizing plot, and creating activities that fit into various aspects of the Manitoba curriculum. (Downloadable examples at the bottom of this page.)
Testimonials from teen students of the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre's Backstage Pass Program:
"This was one of my favourite workshops so far! It made me think about aspects of design that I hadn’t thought about before (ie. all of the colour involved). I’m very interested in pursuing design for theatre in the future and this workshop inspired me to give it a try!" "It was pretty cool being able to see behind the scenes of what it takes to create set, costume, and lights. It made me really realize how much I do like to create and design concepts!" "I enjoyed how interactive [the workshop] was." "Very detailed and thorough. Inspired us to use our ideas and put them down visually." "I really enjoyed blobbing and imagining and drawing scenes and characters. Learned how costumes are processed and envisioned." "Loved listening to Ksenia talk about her love of designing. Can really tell she loves what she does. Very inspiring. The models and pictures she brought in were very fun and cool to see. My favourite part was when she explained the metaphors used to design the set. Great day!" "I had a lot of fun learning about set and costume design. I liked learning about the process to create the magic the audience sees on stage. I feel like I have a greater appreciation for the people that do the behind the scenes things." |
"Look what we made! I never thought I could do that."
